Change the world

12/01/2011

For the past two and a half years, NMMU Racing has had it’s sights set on competing in the Formula Student Germany (FSG) event at Hockenheim, against 78 other teams from around the world.

Monday 10 January at 1pm the opportunity arrived to complete the online registration process. Due to the tremendous popularity of the competition (over 200 teams apply annually), the organisers introduced an online questionnaire, which tests the team’s knowledge of the competition’s rules.

After many hours of preparation NMMU Racing finally had the opportunity of demonstrating the team’s knowledge of the competition and managed to successfully complete the process in 2min 32sec!

NMMU Racing has racked up another round of “firsts” in the process:

  • First South African team to enter the Formula Student Germany event
  • Fastest international team to complete the online registration process (the second international team completed the process in 9min 56sec)

The team now faces the challenge of preparing the car for the event in the coming months, and arranging the logistics of transporting the vehicle and team to Germany for the August competition. One of the biggest challenges will be to raise the sponsorship required to translate this fantastic opportunity into reality!

Congratulations to the team!
